Cut PPF with your Summa plotter
Summa is what high volume shops buy when they are tired of babysitting. Tangential cutting and OPOS optical positioning give clean corners on complex kits, and ULTRAFILMCUT supports the full OPOS workflow.
On tangential heads the blade offset value from a drag knife machine will over rotate corners. Use the Summa recommended offset for your knife rather than carrying a Graphtec number across.
Summa setup, step by step
- 01
Choose drag or tangential mode
Set the head mode to match the knife you have installed. Tangential gives sharper corners on thick film, drag is faster on simple shapes.
- 02
Connect over USB or Ethernet
Summa machines are stable over network. Assign a static IP if several bays share one machine.
- 03
Pick the model and set OPOS
Select your D series or F series model in Plotter Setup. Leave OPOS enabled if you are cutting registered jobs.
- 04
Calibrate blade offset
Run the Summa knife calibration routine, then send a test square from ULTRAFILMCUT and confirm corners close cleanly with no overshoot.
- 05
Cut a full front kit
Load a full width roll and send a real pattern. Watch the first bumper section, since that is where offset errors show first.
Write your working blade, force and speed numbers on tape and stick it to the machine. Settings are not portable between plotter brands, and the numbers you trust today are the ones you will forget next month.
Tangential heads use the Summa knife value. Do not carry a drag knife offset across.
Cut the calibration square before every first job of the day and after any blade change. The film should part cleanly and the liner should show a light score without being cut through.

Summa questions
Yes. OPOS optical positioning is supported on D series and SummaCut machines for registered cutting workflows.
For one to three cars a day a Graphtec FC9000 is plenty. Past that, the tangential head and throughput of a D160 pays for itself in film saved on complex kits.
