Cut PPF with your Roland plotter
Roland cutters are the quiet workhorse of tint shops moving into PPF. The GS2 series is accurate enough for full front kits and ULTRAFILMCUT talks to it over standard USB.
Roland drivers install a printer style queue. If a failed job is sitting in that Windows queue, the next cut will look like the software is ignoring you. Clear the queue before you retry rather than resending three times.
Roland setup, step by step
- 01
Install the Roland driver first
Install the manufacturer driver from Roland before you connect the machine, then restart Windows. ULTRAFILMCUT sends through that driver.
- 02
Connect over USB
Use the supplied USB cable directly to the workstation. Powered hubs are a common source of dropped jobs mid cut.
- 03
Select your GS2 or CAMM-1 model
In Settings, then Plotter Setup, choose your Roland model so the cutting width and origin match the machine.
- 04
Set force and speed for film
Begin around 60 to 80 gf for paint protection film with speed at 30. Roland force values run on a different scale than Graphtec, so do not copy settings between brands.
- 05
Confirm with a test cut
Send the calibration square, weed the corner, and check the liner. Adjust in steps of 10 gf until the film lifts cleanly and the liner stays intact.
Write your working blade, force and speed numbers on tape and stick it to the machine. Settings are not portable between plotter brands, and the numbers you trust today are the ones you will forget next month.
Connect direct, not through a USB hub, and clear the print queue after any failed job.
Cut the calibration square before every first job of the day and after any blade change. The film should part cleanly and the liner should show a light score without being cut through.

Roland questions
Yes. The GS2-24 handles standard eight mil paint protection film comfortably. For full body kits the wider GS2 and BN series give you more usable width.
Check for a stalled job in the Windows print queue and connect the plotter directly rather than through a USB hub. Both cause partial jobs.
